Petra: One of the World's Greatest Wonders

When I was young, I watched Indiana Jones with my dad and in The Last Crusade, the Holy Grail was being kept guard beyond a beautiful stone facade carved into the side of a cliffside. I didn’t know what this place was, but I knew I wanted to go there.

Cut to many years later, and my dream finally came true. I received the chance to visit Jordan and Petra was one of the main sights on the itinerary. I was so nervous because I didn’t know if it would live up to my expectations. In fact, I didn’t even know what my expectations were. I originally thought Petra was just that one facade, but I was pleasantly surprised to find out that it was so much more.

Petra is a massive archeological site in the country of Jordan. It spans miles and miles of carved facades where travelers used to come through to do business. Nowadays, it’s Jordan’s main tourist attraction and has lots of ground to explore. We spent one day there on our tour, but I could’ve come back multiple days and seen even more. I can see why it truly is one of the seven great wonders of the world.
